It is a diagnostic test consisting of introducing an ultrasonic transmitter in the rectum. The sound waves are reflected in the internal organs and tissues producing echoes. These echoes create the image in ultrasound. Transrectal ultrasound permits evaluating the sphincters integrity, mucosal involvement and possible affections of the adjacent tissues of the rectum.
